Western Qld florists offer Valentine's Day deliveries for truckies

Both Dusty Blooms at Longreach and Floral Nook in Roma have offered to help truck drivers get their Valentine's Day obligations sorted by delivering flowers to pads outside each of the towns.

"We saw the post from Rhiannon at Longreach and thought we would jump on the bandwagon and help our much-appreciated truck drivers for your travels to your loved ones," the Floral Nook post said.

New owner Courtney Fisher said while they'd been busy making early morning deliveries around Roma, they hadn't yet had a call from the breakdown pad.

Speaking from her busy workbench, Courtney, a born and bred Roma girl, said she'd bought the business in October last year for a tree-change.

"I wanted something hands-on," she said, not realising that being a florist was more demanding on one's hands than expected, thanks to the thorns that have to be snipped off, and the width of the bunches once all the stems were grouped together.

"It's a lot harder than it seems, you can't just knock something together," she said.

Nor do the flowers just appear - Courtney said they'd had to put their order in with flower wholesalers in Toowoomba before Christmas so that they arrived in just the right stage of blooming for the day.

Valentine's Day is one of the biggest days of the year for her and the many other florists around the country, despite falling on a Sunday this year.

Courtney was happy to be helping the romantic aspirations of the many male customers happy to find the shop open on Valentine's Day morning.
