A truck driver was airlifted to the Rockhampton Base Hospital with a significant leg injury following a single heavy vehicle rollover accident at the intersection of the Dawson and Leichhardt Highways on the outskirts of Banana in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at 1.57am when the B-double semi-trailer travelling north rolled onto its side while negotiating the intersection of the two highways.
The driver was pinned inside the truck's cab until a passer-by stopped to assist.
According to the Queensland Ambulance Service the man in his sixties sustained a significant leg injury but was airlifted in a stable condition to Rockhampton.
The RACQ Capricorn Rescue helicopter undertook the transfer, leaving its base at 3am.
Fire Brigade officers on the scene reported no obvious signs of a fluid spill but the truck's forward trailer sustained some damage, spilling some of its contents onto the grass verge beside the highway.
Traffic was delayed in all directions while a recovery crew pulled the truck back onto its wheels, and both highways were opened at 4.44am.
