Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1915 cattle, consisting of 1642 prime cattle and 273 store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 206 bullocks, 525 heifers, 696 cows and 215 bulls. Store cattle consisted of 130 steers and 143 hHeifers.
Prime cattle consisted of some large lines of very good cows that sold at higher rates due to strong support from live export and meat processors. Bullocks and bulls were in limited supply and sold to comparable rates to last week.
The yarding was drawn from Croydon, Normanton, Mt Surprise, Richmond, Hughenden, Mt Isa, as well as local and coastal areas.
Bullocks were unchanged, heifers were unchanged, cows were 10c dearer, and bulls were 10c dearer compared to last week's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 382.2c and averaged 354.9c, and those over 500kg topped at 376.2c to average 353.9c. Heifers under 440kg sold to 376.2c and averaged 338.7c, while heifers over 440kg topped at 366.2c, averaging 351.8c. Cows under 400kg made 340c and averaged 258.6c, while cows over 400kg reached 370.2c, averaging 312.8c. Bulls under 450kg made 374.2c and averaged 320.6c, while bulls over 450kg reached 376.2c to average 329.2c.
Bullocks topped at 376c on a/c Paul Minuzo, that weighed 600kg to return $2257/hd. Best priced trade heifers was presented on a/c SP Grazing, that sold for 350c, weighing 516kg to return $1807/hd. The top pen of cows was sold on a/c E and L Slacksmith for 370c, weighing 453kg to return $1677/hd. Bulls sold on a/c E and L Slacksmith topped at 372c and weighed 776kg to return $2887/hd.
Steers under 200kg reached 452c to average 440c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 400c, averaging 352c, and steers 320 - 400kg topped at 388c and averaged 350c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 452c and averaged 368c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 394c, averaging 322c, and heifers 320 - 370kg made 358c to average 344c.
A pen of 19 steers a/c Swans Lagoon Past Co made 452.2c , weighing 199.5kg, returning $902/head. A pen of 18 heifers a/c Swans Lagoon Past Co made 452.2c , weighing 191kg, returning an average of $864.50/hd. One cow and calf unit sold on a/c H Alford, returned $1060.
