WHILE the sale of 423 bulls from 81 studs averaged impressive $11,020, four studs topped the jaw-dropping $20,000 average mark.
Leading the charge with a $27,727 average for 11 head was Peter Carrington, Rondel Droughtmasters, Winton. Even excluding the record-breaking $160,000 Rondel Whiskey, Rondel still averaged $14,500.
The Fleming family's Bundy Droughtmasters, Bundaberg, came in second, posting a $22,300 average for its five head. The draft included the $70,000 Bundy Ironstone, which headed to Roger and Jenny Underwood, Eversleigh and Wallace Vale, Wallumbilla.
Locarno Droughtmasters, Dingo, secured a $21,917 average for the 12 put through the sale ring. Brandon Russell's best was the $100,000 Locarno Odin (P), which found a new home at Skye Droughtmasters, Alpha.
Mac and Gayle Shann, Cantaur Park, Clermont, were fourth in the rankings, with a $20,750 average for the first five lots of the two-day sale. The Shann's draft included the impressive $35,000 Lamont Sylvester (P) now in service at Cairo Cattle Company, Clermont.
A further seven studs averaged better than $14,000.
Wayne and Lana Barnes, Emerald, hit the $18,667 mark for nine bulls, including Waylander Holeshot (P), which sold for $20,000 went to La Shae Droughtmasters, Taroom.
David, Colleen and Mac Smith, Vale View Droughtmasters, Manumbar, scored $16,929 for their seven head.
In seventh place was Hazelwood, Obi Obi, who posted a $16,857 average for eight. Skye Cattle Company, Alpha, secured a very tidy $15,000, also for eight.
An excellent draft of 10 from Ken and Debbie Rutherford, Redskin, Morinish, delivered $14,950. The Kinbacher family, Garthowen, Biggenden, also scored an excellent result averaging $14,187 for eight head. In 11th spot with a $14,192 average was the Donaldson family, Medway, Bogantungan.
Interestingly, four of the above $14,000 averages came on day two, despite the sale slipping to an 9 per cent passed in rate.
