'Hardy' Bulliac bulls for sale

OFFERING 80 "tough as nails" bulls in this year's bull sale, Bulliac Angus continues to focus on commercially-relevant cattle, carefully bred and raised to suit a variety of conditions in northern Australia.

The Sale, held on property at Wandaloo, Miles, Queensland, will provide an excellent opportunity to secure bulls suitable for heifers.

Principal Ben Hill says the majority of this year's bulls are low birth weight.

"There are 50 bulls in the sale with TACE birth weight figures of 4.6 or less, which should appeal to those breeders restocking at the moment," he said.

The hardiness of the Bulliac herd is well-known.

"We focus on breeding bulls under commercial conditions and they go out and perform in the most adverse conditions," Mr Hill added.

"Our bulls have a proven track record of being tough and we are about achieving optimal production with cost effective and relevant inputs in the environment in which we live and operate."

This past year gave further proof of the hardiness of Bulliac cattle. With dry conditions continuing, a large portion of the herd went to Alpha, in Central Queensland for agistment at the start of September, 2019, calved there, rejoined (AI) and came home to Miles after six months.

Proving just how well Angus cattle do in Queensland, the calves born at Alpha are some of the heaviest ever weaned at Bulliac, according to Mr Hill.

"With the industry going strongly at the moment we still believe it is important to maintain a herd of cattle which is suited to the environment in which they are most likely to run," he said.

"Longevity is a profitable trait and we have plenty of cows aged over 16-years-old still breeding and going strong.

"We have placed considerable pressure on our females to ensure that their sons will breed daughters capable of performing well in most situations."

The Annual Bulliac Bull Sale will again offer free delivery to purchasers with 500kms radius of Miles and other locations by arrangement. There is also a 4 per cent rebate to outside agents and due to COVID-19 restrictions, those who cannot attend the Sale, can bid online via both Auctions Plus and Elite Livestock Auctions.
