ONE of Queensland's oldest gazetted cities is about to hit a milestone, with Charters Towers set to mark its 150 year anniversary in 2022.
The year 1872 saw the declaration of the goldfields and in 1877 the 'gold city' became the second minicipality in Queensland and became known as the world.
Charters Towers Regional Council is seeking input as to how to celebrate the 150 year anniversary of the declaration, which led to the development of the town as we know it today.
A beef and beef festival, history fair, variety festival, gala dinner and a 'freedom of entry' ceremonial parade are some of the ideas that have been generated so far.
Mayor Frank Beveridge said it was important for council to understand how the community would like to celebrate 150 years of Charters Towers.
"2022 seems like a long way off, however, a commemorate event like our 150 year celebration will take a lot of planning and we want to do it right and engage with the community," Cr Beveridge said.
"We're asking the community to vote on the ideas we've already generated and to suggest new ideas.
"Once we have a good understanding of what the community expects, we can start planning and engaging with providers to make the celebrations something we can all experience and enjoy.
Other ideas include sporting events, traditional owners culture, gallery displays and commemorative sculpture and infrastructure installation.
The community can provide feedback on potential events and activities through an online Facebook poll on council's page or by calling council on 4761 5300 or email mail@charterstowers.qld.gov.au.
The poll will be open until August 24.
