Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1982 cattle consisting of 817 prime cattle and 1165 store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 130 bullocks, 125 heifers, 449 cows and 113 bulls. Store cattle consisted of 461 steers, 434 heifers, 267 mickeys and three cows and calves.
Prime cattle comprised scattered pens of better finished types with good competition for all types strong across the board.
The yarding was drawn from Croydon, Georgetown, Forsayth, Einasleigh, Greenvale, Richmond, Ingham, Innisfail as well as local and coastal areas.

Bullocks were quoted 2-5c easier, heifers were unchanged, cows were unchanged, and bulls were unchanged on last week's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 338c and averaged 312c, and those over 500kg topped at 336c to average 313c. Heifers under 440kg sold to 333c and averaged 293c, while heifers over 440kg topped at 298c, averaging 294c. Cows under 400kg made 288c and averaged 224c, while cows over 400kg reached 288c, averaging 265c. Bulls under 450kg made 310c and averaged 298c, while bulls over 450kg reached 326c to average 267c.
Bullocks topped at 336c for seven Brahman ox sold on a/c LJ Lavery, Springvale Station, Charters Towers, that weighed 590kg to return $1983/hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c RD and LM Woodard that sold for 333.2c and weighed 410kg to return $1366/hd.
The top pen of cows was sold on a/c BG and M Christensen, Charters Towers, for 285.2c weighing 676kg to return $1927/hd. Bulls sold on a/c CNK Farming, Acaciavale, Charters Towers, topped at 326c and weighed 710kg to return $2316/hd.

Store cattle were made up of some good quality lines of steers and heifers which were met with solid competition on the better types.
Steers under 200kg reached 404c to average 394c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 406c, averaging 355c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 346c and averaged 334c and steers over 400kg sold to 336c to average 336c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 380c, averaging 310c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 374c and averaged 337c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 372c, averaging 301c, heifers 320 - 370kg made c to average c, and heifers over 370kg topped at 306c, averaging 306c.
A good line of 240 No.8 and No.9 steers a/c Pedracini Grazing, Scartwater, Charters Towers, topped at 356.2c to average 351.2c to weigh 280kg and return $981/hd. A pen of 24 steers a/c Julago Livestock, Ironbark, Giru, made 406c and weighed 242kg, returning an average of $982/hd.
A good pen of 26 heifers on a/c Julago Livestock, Ironbark, Giru, made 374c, weighed 175kg returning an average of $654/hd. Cows and calves were insufficient to quote.
