Charters Towers combined agents yarded 3931 head at their store sale on Friday.
Cattle consisted of 2082 steers, 266 mickeys and 1583 heifers. A small gallery of buyers operated, with steers 320-400kg selling to similar rates while steers 320kg and under including weaner types sold to much cheaper rates by up to 30c.
Heifers eased in rates across the board.
The yarding was drawn from McKinlay, Julia Creek, Normanton, Mt Isa, Burketown, Prairie, Richmond, Hughenden, Mt Garnet, Mt Surprise, Ingham, Einasleigh, Bower, Collinsville, local and coastal areas.
Generally, the yarding was of good quality but not quite up to the very good quality of last week. The yarding consisted of fewer crossbred types and more Brahman and Brahman cross cattle were yarded.
Steers under 200kg reached 384c to average 363c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 384c, averaging 328c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 356c and averaged 337c and steers over 400kg sold to 354c to average 344c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 344c, averaging 311c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 300c and averaged 276c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 306c, averaging 281c, heifers 320 - 370kg made 316c to average 287c, and heifers over 370kg topped at 320c, averaging 308c.
A good run of 252 steers a/c Jervoise Station, Greenvale, topped at 384c to average 359c and weighed 221kg returning an average of $795/hd. A good pen of 20 heifers a/c LA and PA Thomson, Kallanda Station, Mt Fox, made 320c, weighed 372kg, returning an average of $1190/hd. Four cows and calves sold on a/c BW and MI Landsberg, Hopeview, Charters Towers, returned $1620/unit.
