Seedstock industry leader, Hazeldean Angus, will hold its first bull sale in Tamworth on Wednesday, August 19, to better service clients in northern NSW.

The Cooma-based stud has been owned and operated by the Litchfield family for six generations, with Jim and Libby Litchfield, and their daughter Bea and her husband Ed Bradley, currently at the helm.

According to Ms Litchfield, the stud has introduced a bull sale to Tamworth to provide commercial producers in northern NSW with fit for purpose Angus genetics.

"It is exciting to be able to service our northern clients with some robust, well balanced bulls, bred to excel for any commercial enterprise," she said

"We are offering some excellent two year old bulls with the usual Hazeldean package of high-performing estimated breeding values (EBVs), great structure and temperament."

The sale catalogue of 50 bulls features a strong influence of Hazeldean sire lines including Hazeldean Jaipur J140 who Ms Litchfield said is referred to as "the foot fixer" due to his near perfect structural foot scores and general structural integrity.

"Hazeldean Jaipur is also very docile, has excellent fertility EBVs and his birth to 400 and 600-day growth spread is impressive," she said.

"He is a trait leader for calving ease and has been used extensively at Hazeldean with great success."

Also featuring sons in the sale draft is Hazeldean F1023, an impressive marbling sire that rose to the top of the breed following his outstanding performance in the Angus Sire Benchmarking Program Cohort 3.

"We have been frustrated with many imported Angus artificial insemination (AI) sires appearing in this country and we believe the lack of breeding depth has resulted in a huge range of phenotypes including issues with temperament and structure," Ms Litchfield said.

"This has encouraged us to use a greater proportion of our own genetics, ensuring the ever important traits of longevity and constitution are maintained within our own and our clients herds."

Hazeldean Angus will offer 50 two year old bulls at this year's inaugural sale in Tamworth, featuring the usual Hazeldean package of high-performing estimated breeding values, structural soundness and a quiet temperament.

She said a large portion of bulls for sale will be suitable for heifer joining and with much of northern NSW in a herd rebuilding phase, the sale offers an excellent opportunity to use industry leading genetics for replacement females.

"Hazeldean 'do-ability' is something many producers in northern NSW have commented on.

"Throughout this recent drought we have sold a number of females and clients have remarked how well Hazeldean cattle have done on their place.

"Do-ability is very heritable and is something we are proud of."

As with all Hazeldean stock, all bulls are sold with the Hazeldean Guarantee - one year from purchase, are free of all genetic conditions, semen tested and independently assessed for structure with scores provided in the catalogue. They are also vaccinated for Pesti, Vibrio and a 7in1 booster with free delivery available in NSW.

"Some of the sale catalogue bulls have also worked as yearlings in Hazeldean joinings, so are tried and tested and ready to work," Ms Litchfield said.

Complementing the Tamworth sale, bulls will be sold at the annual Hazeldean Northern Performance bull sale at Jackson, Qld, on August 13, and at Cooma on September 3 and in May. The annual South Australian sale is held at Willalooka in February.

The inaugural Hazeldean Angus Tamworth sale will be held at the Tamworth Regional Livestock Exchange on Wednesday, August 19. The Litchfield family welcomes everyone to join them on the day for a complimentary Angus beef BBQ.
