WEANERS topped $1440/head at Shepherdson and Boyd's red hot annual Toogoolawah weaner sale.
The sale, which was also conducted online through Elite Livestock Auctions, saw buyers from throughout eastern Australia charge into the 5109 calves on offer. A total of 3850 head were presented clean of ticks for immediate movement.
Plenty of good judges around the yards estimated many of the steers were making better than $5/kg liveweight.
The top steers were came from Old Hidden Vale, Grandchester. The very well grown Charolais-cross, which were earlier judged the champion pen steers, sold for $1440 to Victorian buyers.
Lyndhurst, Crows Nest, sold 207 Charolais-cross steers for a top of $1300 to average $1255. Luck Farming sold two pens of Charolais-cross steers for $1290. Colin and Sharon Henderson's Charolais-cross calves sold for $1310.
Pauline Kelly, Geneast, sold Charolais steer calves for $1340 and $1280. Matt and Melissa George, Eskdale Cattle Co, sold 308 steers to average $1174. The Charolais-cross steers topped for $1290, Angus for $1360 and Santa and Droughtmasters for $1280.
Tandora averages $1299
The Titmarsh family, Tandora, Maryborough sold 220 outstanding steers, which averaged $1299. Their Charolais-cross steers topped $1420 and the Simmental-cross $1350.
Erin Duncombe sold early weaned Charolais steers for $1100. Andrew and Sheree Grieve sold 122 Charolais-cross steers for a top of $1220 to average $1042.
Peter Stanton, Kilcoy Butchery, sold a great draft of Charolais calves, which topped $1400, and Angus at $1210. Manumbar Station sold 184 Charolais cross steers for an average $1112. Garth and Toni Reiser had a great draft of 90 calves, which $1040. The Charolais-cross steers sold for $1210 and a quality draft of Brahman steers for $960.
The Clarkson family, Delcosta, Linville, sold their Charolais-cross calves to $1190 and $1020. John Barnes sold an excellent pen of Charolais Droughtmaster cross steers for $1300. Sydney Williams, Cardross, Grandchester, had quality Santa steer calves for $1280 and $1140.
Brian Sheahan's pen of Charolais steers sold for $1100. Kelvin Allery and Sons had quality Angus-cross steers for $1150. Ben and Alice Roughan had Angus-cross steers for $1050 and Charolais-cross steers for $1080. Tom Crowley sold his usual top quality draft of quality Charolais-cross steers with three pens realising $1210.
Denis and Michelle Heck sold Charolais steer claves for $1330. The Gloag and Fogg families sold an excellent draft of Simmental steers selling to $1330. Brendon Vaughan, Croftby Downs Farming, sold Charolais-cross steers to $1130.
Brisbane Valley Pastoral sold Simmental-cross steers for $1210 and Droughtmaster cross for $1150. The Barraclough family had two pens of Charolais-cross steers for $1260. The Gittins family, Goomeri, sold quality Charolais-cross for $1210 and Droughtmaster-cross $1090. Darren Pratten's Charolais-cross steer made to $1030.
Bjelke Pastoral sold quality Charolais steer calves for $1200. Zana Heits big Charolais cross steer calves sold for $1420. Wade and Megan Shetton's calves topped for $1270. From Partnership had quality Droughtmaster cross steers at $1230. Margaret Wilson's young Droughtmaster steer realised $1140.
Graham Scholl's Charolais cross steers sold for $1250. Ian and Di McCauley of Kilcoy had Charolais cross steers for $1150 and Senepol cross for $1120. BJ Farms sold Charolais cross calves for $1150. The Reinke family of Gatton had a great draft of Santa steer calves for $1270 and $1230.
Paul and Julie Watson sold Droughtmaster steers for $1060. A draft of 60 Droughtmaster steer calves from Sandy McLay, Gayndah, topped $1170. Peter and Brenda McGreevy sold quality Angus steers for $1080. Colin Goldsworthy, Mount Moon, Moogerah, sold Angus-cross steers for $1080 and Droughtmaster-cross for $980.
Speckle Park $1200
A feature pen of young Speckle Park steers from Calcraigge, Eidsvold, made $1200. Colinton Station sold 113 Charolais-cross for an average $1109. Karreman Quarries sold excellent Santa cross steers for $1290 and Charolais cross for $1210. Charolais cross steer calves from the Estate of Doug Harvey made $1180.
Heifers hit new heights
The heifer market rose to new heights with excellent demand from NSW and Victorian buyers. Lyndhust sold 160 Charbray cross heifers to $1250 to average $1055. Tandora had an excellent draft of 188 head, which averaged $1137. Colin and Sharon Henderson's heifers sold for $1110. Luck Farming's heifers realised $1060.
Gemeast heifers sold for $1070 and $950. Eskdale Cattle Co heifers topped $1040. Old Hidden Vale's heifers made $1300 and $1010. Gittins family heifers sold for $1040. Barraclough family heifers hit $1050. Tom Crowley's Charolais cross heifer calves sold for $1050. Matthew and Rebecca Pulsford had a great draft of Charbray heifers, which made $1000.
Greive Brothers sold 94 heifers topping $990 to average $827. Dick and Cate Buckham's excellent Charolais-cross heifers, which were earlier judged the champion females, made $1260. Gerard Frisby's Charolais-cross heifers topped $1100. Croftby Downs' Charolais-cross heifer calves made $1070. R&A McIntosh sold Angus cross heifer calves for $1190.
Mount Moon Angus cross heifers sold for $930. Latimer and Sons Pastoral's Angus cross heifer calves made $870. Delcosta Charolais cross weaner heifers topped $860. Darren Pratten's Charbray heifers sold for $900 and $870. Karreman Quarries Bazadaise heifer calves topped $860. Ninbah Pastoral Co sold 88 Bazadaise cross heifers to $870 for an $775 average.
