There was a yarding of 543 cattle at Mareeba this week.

Mareeba Combined Agents penned a total of 543 head at this week's prime and store cattle sale, a decrease of 76 head on the previous week.

Most local processors were present along with two major processors, a couple of traders and a small gallery of local buyers.

Steers suitable for domestic or local trade topped at 335c/kg to average 309c. Heifers suitable for local or domestic trade topped at 299c to average 269c. Ox suitable for slaughter topped at 329c to av 292c, cows suitable for slaughter and local trade topped at 270c to average 236c and bulls topped at 302c to average 276c.

Good quality steers topped at 322c to average 242c, while heifers followed the state-wide trend with only the top drafts making to a top of 284c to average 260c. Young males up to 300kg topped 238c with only a small yarding to quote on.

The yarding consisted of 183 steers averaging 278.8c selling to a top of 335.2c, 12 bulls averaging 253.3c selling to a top of 302.2c, 138 cows averaging 209.4c selling to a top of 270.2c, 65 heifers averaging 267.2c selling to a top of 299.2c, 92 yearling heifers averaging 242.7c selling to a top of 284.2c and 53 yearling steers averaging 256.7c selling to a top of 286.2c
