While the sun shone brilliantly throughout the second day of the 2020 Big Country Brahman Sale the high quality of the 158 grey bulls offered in the ring ensured an outstanding overall result was achieved in sale ring.
All 158 grey bulls offered were purchased for a gross of $1,566,500 to average $9915.
Lot 402, Akama Sambo (IVF) (PP), from the Sturdy family, Akama Brahmans, Gargett, scored the grey section and overall sale top price honours when Lawson Camm, Cambil Brahmans, Proserpine, combined with Gavin Scott, Rosetta Station, Collinsville to make the $56,000 winning bid.
Sale agent Ken McCaffrey, McCaffrey's Australian Livestock Marketing, Rockhampton said the sale total gross of $2,937,500 was a near record for a Northern Australian multi-vendor stud sale, falling just $15,000 short of the $2,952,500 record set at the 2017 Big Country sale.
"Anyone with a bid card probably made a purchase. The result exceeded my expectations, I didn't think the market would be this buoyant considering the rain has only started descending in big quantities over the past two weeks," Mr McCaffrey said.
