Monto Cattle & Country kicked off their 2020 sales with 575 head yarded. Since Wednesday's sale there has been rainfall varying from 250mm to 750mm (1 to 3 inches) which is a big relief to many.
All processors and regular buyers were in attendance for the first sale.
All bulls yarded were average quality and sold to a top of 250c/kg or $2100. Tony Brazel sold Brangus bullocks for 300c or $1875. Droughtmaster heifers (4 and 6 tooth) sold to 275c or $1486. Droughtmaster cows sold to 233c or $1032.
Odd single heavy cows sold to 252c. Santa cross cows sold to 232c or $1322. Generally, cows 450 to 500kg sold from 220c to 235c and store cows sold from 137c to 171c.
Only a few bigger feeder steers were yarded selling to 270c.
Ashenhurst Partnership sold light Droughtmaster cross weaner steers to 250c or $455. Hiscock and Sons sold Charbray weaner steers for $645. J and A Devillers sold Limousin cross heifers averaging 353kg for 250c or $883.
K Hockey's Santa cross No. 9 heifers returned $805 or 245c. Bluffview sold Brahman heifers 275kg for 245c to make $675. Light weight Droughtmaster weaner heifers sold for 210c or $385. Santa cows and calves sold for $1000/unit.
