The first Wednesday sale of 2020 the Combined Agents of CQLX saw a yarding of 2,499 comprising of 988 steers, 843 heifers, 599 cows, 24 bulls and 45 cows and calves.
With a full buyer panel operating, competition was very strong. Rates for all categories were increased from the last sale of 2019. The younger cattle were well sought after with buyers from Townsville, Emerald, Monto, and local areas.
Slaughter steers sold to 309c, average 309c, steers 400-500kg made 304c, average 291c, steers 300-400kg reached 300c, average 277c, steers 200-300kg made 278c, average 236c and steers under 200kg sold to 262c, average 230c.
Slaughter cows sold to 243c, average 221c, cows 400-450kg made 261c, average 193c, cows 320-400kg reached 237c, average 143c, and cows under 320kg made 212c, average 90c.
Heavy heifers sold to 282c, average 270c, heifers 300-400kg made 265c, average 237c, heifers 200-300kg reached 258c, average 219c, and heifers under 200kg made 266c, average 189c.
Cows and calves sold to $810/unit, average $666/unit.
Bulls over 600kg made 304c, average 267c, bulls 450-600kg reached 284c, average 207c and bulls under 450kg sold to 296c, average 206c.

A and J Bauer, Baralaba, sold Brahman weaner heifers to average 254c, weighing 243kg to return $618/head. Jim Shannon, Jambin, sold No.8 Senepol cross heifers for 282c to average 437kg and return $1232 /head.
Nott and Mahood, Banana, sold a run of Brahman weaner heifers making 266c weighing 190kg to return $507/head. They also sold feeder heifers to 265c weighing 387kg to return $1026/head. Michael Leahy, Ubobo, sold Brangus cross cows and calves for $810/unit.
