COMPELLING genetics packed in high grade articles influenced buyers to spend freely at the annual NCC Brahman Sale at Inverrio, Duaringa, on October 29.
Hosted by Brett Nobbs, the sale attracted a colossal crowd who bought all that was offered to hand the vendor a 100 per cent clearance rate on 114 lots at an average of $12,415 on a gross of $1,415,500.
Each of the 95 bulls presented for auction found new homes, selling to a high of $75,000 (grey) and returning an average of $12,965.
Of the 95 bulls, 81 were grey and they averaged $13,180 while 14 red bulls averaged $11,715 with a top price of $26,000.
Eighteen females also changed hands at an average price of $9500 and a ceiling of $24,000.
Rounding out the catalogue was a semen package of five straws taken from Polled Pathfinder 24 (P) (Imp US), which sold for $13,000 to Ken O'Dowd, Lorneville Brahmans.
A satisfied Mr Nobbs thanked the buyers, many of whom came from central and North Queensland, some from the south-east corner of the state and others from the Northern Territory.
"Hopefully the breeding stock excels for those buyers who have made purchases," Mr Nobbs said.
"We were particularly proud with this line of cattle. What we are really trying to achieve is a lot of evenness with the Brahmans and predictability and consistency in type and I think we are getting there.
"We attribute that to the families we have developed over the years and we are pretty confident of the job these bulls will do and our females as well."
Stewart and Tom Nobbs, Yoman Cattle Company, Moura, signed for the highest priced article of the day, the 23-month-old NCC Cheltenham (IVF).
Sired by JDH Massai Manso (Imp US) JDH608/6M from the FBC D Mandrake Manso cow FBC D Miss Charmer Manso FBD471DFF, Cheltenham tipped the scales at 736kg with an eye muscle area of 145sq cm.
Promoted as having length, character and a strong head, he also featured a scrotal circumference of 36cm and motility of 85pc. Cheltenham complimented those attributes with an IMF percentage of 3.8 and respective P8 and rib fat measurements of 12mm and 8mm.
Stewart Nobbs said Cheltenham was the pick of the NCC draft in his opinion.
"On paper he looked the goods and when we inspected him he was the pick - just a stand out individual," he said.
"We hope he does what we want. I'd like to think we have a pretty good herd and, therefore, it's good to shop for the right sire and that's what we've done."
Roger Nobbs, Wingara, Moura, super-charged the selling arena when he stopped the auctioneer at $70,000 for Lot 3, NCC Lord Drayton (IVF).
Following previous sales of $14,000 (NCC Wedgwood) and $8000 (NCC Josephson (IVF)), Lord Drayton was an immediate hit with buyers once he entered the selling ring.
Bids flew quickly from either side of the grandstand and when the dust settled he held the sale benchmark until Cheltenham lifted the bar.
Weighing 958kg and with an EMA of 153sq cm, Lord Drayton is a full brother-in-blood to NCC Lord Delaware, a leading sire for Palmai and 2AM Studs.
The midpoint of the catalogue held its own highlight when the 20-month-old NCC Portslade (IVF) sold to John Kirk and Company, Carinya Brahmans, Gayndah, for $55,000.
Like the top seller, he is a son of JDH Massai Manso (Imp US) JDH608/6M and has motility of 70pc with a scrotal circumference of 34cm and EMA of 137sq cm.
Another six bulls sold for at least $30,000, the first of which was Lot 4, NCC Pickering (IVF), a $32,500 acquisition for E and K Camp, Floraville Station, Burketown.
The next of the $30,000 plus sales was another buy for the Carinya Brahman studmasters, who paid $32,500 for NCC Brewster (IVF), a 22-month-old bull featuring extra length, good bone, muscling and a masculine head.
Gavin Scott, Rosetta Grazing, Collinsville, paid $36,000 for Lot 79, NCC El Tigre (IVF) which traces to JDH Mr Elmo Manso (Imp US) on his dam's side and features an EMA of 137sq cm, scrotal circumference of 36cm and weighed 766kg at 22 months.
Only moments later the Donald Family, Red Range, Theodore, secured NCC Blackburn (IVF) for $37,500.
Weighing 760kg and 22 months of age, Blackburn has P8 and rib fat measurements of 12mm and 9mm and is from El-Ja Baby Doll Manso ELJ3671F.
Ron Kirk and Family, Yenda, Gayndah, signed for NCC Aylesbury (IVF) at $30,000. The blue grey son of Renco Law & Order De Manso EEE153/6M and El-Ja Amy Manso ELJ6160F is a brother to NCC Alford (IVF) which sold for $26,000 earlier in the session.
Twenty-three month-old NCC Bolsover (IVF) was the last of the big purchases at $30,000, bought by Capricorn Brahmans, Brooweena.
Seven bulls sold for prices between $20,000-$30,000.
In the female portion of the sale, Rosetta Grazing happily paid top price of $24,000 for NCC El Anna, the 22-month-old daughter of NCC El Anna 2161 (IVF).
Speaking on behalf of the family, Dillon Scott said she would fit in seamlessly with others in their female herd and El Anna had all the right traits.
"She was very hard to fault from any angle," he said.
