Mataranka's Coodardie Station is a finalist in this year's Northern Territory Natural Resource Management Awards in Darwin on November 13.
The event highlights the achievements of passionate managers of the Territory's natural resources, land, water, soil, plants and animals.
A sustained herd of 300 healthy cattle free-ranging on the open paddocks of old Cameron Downs have been integral to the success of station owners, Fiona McBean and Peter Cogill, in being able to develop the Territory's first paddock-to-plate on-farm abattoir and butcher's shop.
The couple's thriving rural enterprise, Eva Valley Meats, is a finalist in the Farmers and Fishers Sustainability category of the 2019 awards being presented during the NRM conference.
The Batchelor enterprise will vie against Central Australia's organic date farming Tamara Cooperative and the Desert Fruit Company, and Mataranka's holistic cattle operation, Coodardie Station.
The NT NRM awards recognise the achievements of farmers, rangers, researchers, community groups, businesses and schools who devote their time to looking after the Territory's precious natural resources.
Territory Natural Resource Management CEO Karen May commended the award nominees and finalists.
"We look forward to celebrating the achievements of these dedicated individuals and groups, who have made a significant contribution to protecting the environment and farming for the future," she said.
