Food tourism in western Queensland hit a new high at Longreach on the weekend when the Outback Food, Wine and Music Festival was completely sold out.
Longreach's airport was as busy as the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame venue as people flew in from around Queensland and NSW to help celebrate the diverse flavours of regional Queensland, and the world.
Thanks to Queensland government funding provided through the Year of Outback Tourism campaign, a gastronomic food and wine menu was created that included flavours from India, Mexico, Russia and Thailand, as well as craft beers and outback-inspired wine.
ASHOF executive assistant Annette McBride said no-one went home hungry.
"We managed the whole event and showcased what we can do," she said.
"The Outback Food, Wine and Music Festival in its inaugural year last year exceeded expectations for attracting visitors.
"This year, everyone booked for next year and said they'd be bringing 10 of their mates.
"I think we nailed it."
Highlights included a masterclass with celebrity chef Matt Sinclair and the dachshund Dash for Cash, raising money for CW Music Makers.
