Cloncurry farewelled the 2019 tourist season with its Beat the Heat festival street party bringing the crowds out on Friday night.
This is the second year of the festival which adds new events in the existing calendar such as the Curry spring races.
Hundreds packed out a closed off Scarr St on Friday night.
First they enjoyed the curry cook-off with four team vying to produce the best curry in the Curry.
The Ceylon Rice and Spice team took out the trophy and the $300 gift voucher prize while the Nepalese Curry Girls won People's Choice.
Then the mine cart race took over the streets with six teams of two including a "miner" and a "cowboy" having to push their way around the course while performing tasks that harked to Cloncurry's mining and agricultural heritage.
In the end the Dirt Pirates team beat Morrissey's Mill Rats in the final to make away with the $500 gift voucher.
Then attention turned to main stage where former Cloncurry local now Melbourne-based songstress Madeleine Chaplain played a set. She was followed by husband and wife couple Adam Eckersley and Brooke McClymont who performed together.
MC was Cr Brad Rix in his last official duty before he relocates to Gold Coast with fellow police officer wife Heidi and their family.
Mayor Greg Campbell praised Cr Rix's contribution and thanked the community for supporting the festival.
