Mareeba combined agents penned a total of 571 head at this week's prime and store cattle sale. Numbers increased by 251 head on the previous week's 320 head.
The yarding consisted of 167 steers averaging 227c/kg selling to a top of 273c, 135 bulls averaging 158c selling to a top of 270c, 105 cows averaging 169c selling to a top of 222c, 46 heifers averaging 112c selling to a top of 199c, 55 yearling heifers averaging 143c to a top of 175c and 38 yearling steers averaging 217c selling to a top of 252c.
Values for good quality slaughter cattle improved slightly by 2-3c/kg generally. Well grown medium weight feeder steers remained firm in value. Light weight store steers, heifers and young males are struggling to maintain strong value. The usual panel of buyers and traders were in attendance.
