CHARTERS Towers cowboy Darcy Kersh is leading the rookie all around standings in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association with a month of competition to go this season.
He leads the rookie standings in rope and tie, team roping header and team roping heeler.
In open standings, he is fourth in the rope and tie so is certain to qualify in the top 15 for the Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals in October.
The top four in all around cowboy rookie standings are all set to qualify for the national finals.
NSW rider Tom Kerr is first in rookie saddle bronc standings and third in open standings. In all around rookie standings, he is in second place.
Queensland rider Tom Webster is second in rookie standings in saddle bronc and ninth in the open. He is fourth in the rookie all around standings.
Reigning national bull ride champion Brady Fielder from Central Queensland is in third spot in the bull ride as he continues his golden run of form which put him second and first in the past two Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals.
On Saturday, the Springsure Working Horse Association Rodeo is on at the Springsure Showgrounds. The rodeo is for championship points so the placegetters will boost their chances of qualifying for the national finals in October.
Stock contractors for Springsure are Garry McPhee from Lurg in Victoria along with Queensland contractors Darren Brandenburg and Destiny Cattle Company.
Destiny Downs provide timed event cattle around the nation under the watchful eye of long-time APRA timed event champion Shane Kenny.
Four rodeos remain in the current season to September 30.
The Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals will be contested by the top 15 in each event over four rounds at the Warwick Showgrounds on October 24-27.
There will be night rounds at the finals on Thursday to Saturday nights and then the finals will finish with a round on the Sunday afternoon.
All presentations will be after each event rather than at a special function after the last round.
Competitors will be given credit at the finals for their performances on the pro tour. It is possible for the 15th placed rider to win a title but they will need placings in all four rounds to catch the standings leaders.
