The Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy is currently reviewing the Queensland Stock Route Strategy and Stock Route Management Regulation to ensure the network is sustainable for decades to come.
According to a spokesperson from DNRM, a key part of the review includes feedback from stakeholders to help audit the routes, discuss fee options for those using the network and to shape the strategy to enhance its sustainability.
"To gain stakeholder feedback we are holding workshops in Roma, Longreach and Emerald from late August," the spokesperson said.
"After this consultation DNRME will prepare a draft regulation and strategy for final consultation scheduled for the end of 2019."
Boss drover Bill Little, Roma, said it would be foolish to impose an increase for travelling stock as the majority of the cattle on the route were there to survive during the drought.
"At the moment there are 20 mobs on the road throughout Queensland and most of them are walking for drought relief."
