Charters Towers agents yarded 1057 cattle consisting of 412 prime cattle and 645 store cattle. The prime cattle consisted of 15 bullocks, nine heifers, 373 cows and 15 bulls. Store cattle consisted of 219 steers, 391 heifers and 35 mickey bulls. Rain affected the yarding with reduced numbers this week.
Prime cattle consisted of mostly cows with limited numbers of bullocks and prime heifers yarded. All descriptions were dearer than last week's rates. The yarding was drawn from Croydon, Burketown, Georgetown, Mt Surprise, Einasleigh, Murry Upper, Ingham, Trebonne, Bowen, Collinsville, Richmond and the Charters Towers district.

Bullocks were quoted 1-2c dearer, heifers were 8-10c dearer, cows were 2-10c dearer and bulls were unchanged on last week's rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 289c and averaged 260c, and those over 500kg topped at 289c to average 289c. Heifers under 440kg sold to 252c and averaged 222c. Cows under 400kg made 204c and averaged 155c, while cows over 400kg reached 211c, averaging 191c. Bulls under 450kg made 260c and averaged 209c, while bulls over 450kg reached 274c to average 257c.
Bullocks topped at 289.2c sold on a/c AJ and JL Pemble, Southernview Station, Charters Towers that weighed 518kg to return $1496/hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c G and C Connolly, Blanncourt, Georgetown that sold for 252.2c and weighed 425kg to return $1071/hd.
The top pen of cows were sold by AJ and JL Pemble, Southernview Station, Charters Towers for 207.2c weighing 488kg to return $1010/hd. Bulls sold on a/c Greg Garland, Charters Towers topped at 274.2c and weighed 620kg to return $1700/hd.

Store cattle yarded were very mixed in breed type from high grade Brahmans to Crossbred types. Quality overall was similar to last week with all weight ranges represented.
Steers under 200kg reached 269c to average 257c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 271c, averaging 250c,and steers 320 - 400kg topped at 268c and averaged 238c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 244c, averaging 220c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 200c and averaged 162c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 196c, averaging 164c, and heifers 320 - 370kg made 192c to average 163c.
A pen of two steers a/c D Hunt and LL Griffiths, Rycon Station, Einasleigh made 271.2c and weighed 215kg, returning an average of $583.08/head. A good pen of 19 heifers a/c HM Furber, Narrawa, Einasleigh made 196.2c, weighed 247kg returning $485/hd.
