EMERALD cowboy Clay Caban has won the Junior All Around title in the Australian Professional Rodeo Association.
He backed up to win the team roping heading title.
The finals were held in his home arena at Emerald on two cold nights at the weekend.
Emerald Rodeo Committee president Shane Kenny said crowd numbers were hit hard by the cold weather with 800 patrons watching the final round of the junior finals on Saturday night.
"The standard of junior competition is getting better each year," he said.
"We had finalists from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia. The times were close in all events."
The Junior Finals are sudden death with money won during the season not counting towards junior titles.
While some of the juniors are already riding bulls, the only rough stock event at the Junior Finals is the steer ride.
Southern NSW cowboy Clayton Miners won the steer ride.
Two of Kenny siblings from Emerald won a junior title.
In her last event as a junior, Ellysa Kenny won the barrel race. Her brother Tyler was the champion team roping heeler for the season.
Many of the juniors are already competing well at open level.
Sarina cowboy Toby Hale won the junior breakaway roping title and then teamed with his father Warrick to finish third in the open team roping at the Emerald Rodeo.
Callan Burgoine from Charters Towers was first in the junior rope and tie.
In the Emerald Ag Grow open rodeo, Dysart rider Sonny Schafferius recorded the only score in the open bull ride to win.
Five cowboys made time in the second division bull ride which shows there are many promising riders moving up to the open bull ride in the next year. Toowoomba cowboy Zane Hall won with 82 points.
