The annual show weaner and feeder sale saw over 4500 penned at Emerald on June 4. A high calibre quality of yarding was presented with is not out of the ordinary at this featured sale, and while cattle presented well, the short or lack of summer season did effect average weights.
Heavy feeder steers 400-500kg sold to 284c/kg to average 277c, trade feeder steers 350-400kg made to 294c to average 270c, 280-350kg steers topped at 309c to average 269c, weaner steers 200-280kg made as much as 300c to average 267c, while light steers under 200kg sold to 290c.
The few heifers over 400kg sold to 242c to average 227c, trade feeder heifers 350-400kg topped at 250c to average 226c, 280-350kg heifers reached 247c to average 209c, weaner heifers 200-280kg made as much as 229c to average 188c, while light heifers under 200kg sold to 182c.

The Prince family, Melaleuca, Capella offered Droughtmaster cross steers to make 276c for 458kg $1266, while the Prentice family, Jamar, Yamala had their winning 407kg Santa heifers to 242c and $987. The Lake Elphinstone heifers in from Nebo made to 244c for 337kg and $823, while Jenny and Will Jansen, Riverview, Alpha had their 318kg Droughtmaster cross steers to 274c and $874.
Glen and Loretta Horn, Capella offered 286kg Euro cross weaner steers to 282c and $807, while the Backus family, Nardoo, Emerald had their 305kg Brangus cross steers to 295c/kg and $902. The Hamblin family, Doris Park, Emerald had their 273kg Droughtmaster steers to 290c and $ 793, while Mick and Toni Charles, Gindie offered 355kg Charolais cross heifers to 246c and $874. The DeBoni family, Boonal Downs, Capella had their 277kg Santa cross steers to 288c and $800, while the Stent Smith family, Roper View, Emerald sold 254kg Simmental cross weaner heifers to 223c and $566.
