HORSES won't be the only things pelting around the dirt track and being cheered on in Richmond next month.
One of the more popular attractions to the Richmond Field Days in recent years has been the Lawn Mower Derby and 2019 looks set to maintain that tradition.
Teams will bring out their "hotted up" and perhaps not-so-hotted-up ride-on mowers with a view to snare first place within the dust of the Richmond Turf Club track.
Some teams have even been known to don team costumes in order to drum up crowd support and add extra colour to the race.
Of course, no mowing actually gets done with vehicles having had their blades removed.
Last year, four teams competed in the three lap race, with the Angry Grasshoppers taking the prize with their 1986 Victor containing an installed XR200 motor.
Richmond Field Days secretary, Kacie Lord, says, when it comes to entertainment, the mower derby has proven to be a crowd favourite.
"The lawn mower race is always a solid hour of laughter and fun," Ms Lord said.
This year's prize money is $2000 in total, with $1000 for first place, adding to the lure for backyard mechanics and outback rev-heads.
Teams can enter for $50.
The racing action will take place at 4pm on Friday, June 14.
