With another smaller yarding than normal just over 730 cattle yarded at Emerald on Thursday, and a market that trended slightly dearer on slaughter types, light weight and feeder cattle experienced a softer market on the back of a mixed quality lineup.
Heavy bullocks over 550kg topped at 271c to average 268c, 500-550kg steers were too few to reliably quote, while 400-500kg steers made to 256c to average 254c, 350-400kg steers topped at 257c to average 241c, 280-350kg steers reached 272c to average 243c, while steers in the weaner weight ranges made to 283c to average 260c.
Heavy heifers over 400kg topped at 228c to average 220c, 350-400kg heifers made to 222c to average 218c, while heifers in the weaner weight ranges made to 234c to average 209c. Cows over 520kg topped at 182c to average 171c, while cows 450-520kg made to 171c to average 163c. No cows and calves were penned.
The Esmond family, Lucknow, Emerald, sold Droughtmaster cross bullocks to 271c to weigh 628kg or $1703. The Prewett family, Glendariwell, Emerald, sold Brangus steers to 271c to weigh 255kg and returned $693.
The Sibson family, Cotherstone, Capella, consigned Brahman cows to 182c and weighed 634kg or $1156. Shane Goodwin, Malthoid, Capella, sold Brahman heifers to 221c to weigh 400kg and returned $878.
