Cattle numbers increased last week by 1465 to total 3538 head. Queensland buyers continue to look interstate to NSW, purchasing 291 head, predominantly from the Northern Tablelands. A highlight saw a line of 47 Angus PTIC cows from Glen Innes return $1140. These cows are three years of age, weigh 495kg, are PTIC to Angus bulls and were purchased by a buyer at Miles.
Averaging 268c, weaned steers sold from 227c to 290c. The top price was returned by two lines totalling 108 head of Angus steers a/c Lahey Family Trust, Goondiwindi. These steers are 8-10 months, weigh 264kg and found a home across the boarder at Molong, NSW. From Thangool, a line of 120 Droughtmaster cross weaned steers sold for 270c. Weighing 201kg, these steers are 6-9 months and will remain in Qld.
Weaned heifers sold from 169c to 274c, averaging 214c. The top price went to a line of 223 Red Angus heifers a/c Warroo Station Pty Ltd, Inglewood, Qld. These heifers are 4-8 months, weigh 133kg and will remain locally. Other highlights saw backgrounder heifers selling from 197c to 234c, averaging 213c. From Alpha, Zahl Wycheproof Pastoral Company offered 92 composite cross heifers returned the top price. These heifers are 12-18 months, weigh 284kg and will remain in Qld.
PTIC cows sold for $850 and $950. LF Trust, Mungindi, offered both lines. The top price was returned by 66 Angus cross cows. These cows are 3-6 years, weigh 459kg and are PTIC to Ultrablack bulls and will travel to Gunnedah, NSW. Other highlights saw 19 Santa Gertrudis PTIC heifers from Chinchilla return $1000. These heifers are 14-18 months, weigh 386kg are PTIC to Brangus bulls and will travel locally.
SHEEP
Sheep numbers continue to rise with an increase of 1835 to total 11,743 head listed. 47 per cent of the listings found buyers interstate with NSW buyers dominating these purchases. Queensland buyers also looked interstate, purchasing 430 head from the Central Western region of NSW.
The offering of Merino wethers saw a 100pc clearance selling from $100 to $151, averaging $132. From Bollon, 838 woolgrower wethers a/c Woolerina Grazing Family Trust returned the top price. These wethers are Egelabra blood, 2-4 years, weigh 44kg with a 2 1/4" skin and will travel 1300kms to East Bendigo, Vic. From Goondiwindi, a line of 560 wethers returned $116. These wethers are Mumblebone bood, rising 2 years, freshly shorn, weighing 54kg and will travel to Cootamundra, NSW.
Kooroon Pastoral P/L, St George, offered two lines of 430 Merino ewes that returned $133. These ewes are Pooginook, Charinga and Wanganella blood, 1.5 to 5.5 years, weigh 48kg with a 3/4" skin with both lines traveling across the border to Broken Hill, NSW.
First cross mixed sex store and trade lambs sold from $110 to $137, averaging $127. The top price was returned by a line of 610 composite cross store lambs a/c Telgazlie Grazing Co, Surat. These lambs are Aug/Sep '18 drop, weigh 37kg with a 1" skin and will travel to Gulgong, NSW.
