A desire to raise urban awareness of the ongoing pain of north west Queensland's February weather event is behind the latest song from Cloncurry expat Madeleine Chaplain.
Titled The Flood, the track makes good use of the many conversations Madeleine, now based in Melbourne, had with her family as the effects of the flooding and exposure began to unfold.
"It's about accepting the cards we've been dealt, camaraderie in tragedy and never relinquishing hope," the recording artist said.
Her family's cattle station north of Cloncurry was directly affected by the weather phenomenon in February, which wiped out hundreds of thousands of cattle and sheep in the region.
Madeleine said she still had strong ties with the north.
"The bush will always be where I belong," she said.
"My family kept me informed as the devastation unfolded.
"Being that I am a songwriter, it's no surprise that these strong feelings of sadness and helplessness produced a song."
She added that the natural disaster wasn't a prominent topic of conversation in the city.
"I want to generate awareness and urge people to help in any small way they can," she said.
Proceeds from the song will go to Cloncurry-based charity Sisters of the North.
The Flood by Madeleine's Castle is available for purchase through CD Baby and will soon be available on iTunes.
