Broadacre farmers are moving to bigger boom sizes in a bid to increase sprayer efficiency.
To meet this need, Australian sprayer manufacturer Goldacres has launched a 48 metre TriTech boom for its 8500 litre Prairie Pro trailed sprayer, following on from its success with the G8 self-propelled sprayer.
Goldacres sales and marketing manager Stephen Richards said the boom was the only one of its kind fully designed and manufactured in Australia.
"We've been producing, perfecting and testing the 48 metre boom for two years now," he said.
"It's a tri-folding design, you can effectively use it as a 48, 36 or 20 metre boom."
Mr Richards said to support the large boom a lightweight trussed construction was used.
"It's a totally new design, with a steel inner-section and aluminium middle outer and last section, it is much stronger," he said.
"It also incorporates some clever hydraulics, with breakaways built in at each fold, so the boom will break back to 15 degrees if you hit something.
"Usually a boom would only have breakaways on the last section of the boom."

Mr Richards said this was the same hydraulic technology utilised across the TriTech booms.
"The inner wings also feature forward and rearward hydraulic dampening as well as full yaw control," he said.
"It makes for precise yaw and breakaway control."
Mr Richards said another stand-out feature of the 48m TriTech was the frame design allowed a number of nozzle combinations to be used.
"It has a single nozzle bar that runs the length of the boom, which allows you to have any different nozzle combination or spacing you choose," he said.
"For the 48m boom the plumbing is increased to one inch poly tubing for reduced pressure drop, resulting in more even nozzle flow-rate," he said.
Mr Richards said trailing sprayers were still holding their place in the market against self-propelled.
