Mount Isa triathlete Kim Alcorn has her first Julia Creek Dirt n Dust win under her belt, completing the course in first place for the women's category.
An IsaRat, Kim has competed in her fair share of triathlons but she said nothing shaped up to the Dirt n Dust Festival.
"It was an amazing day! The triathlon was tough but I very much enjoyed it and I will be back every year," Kim said.
"This was my second time competing at Dirt n Dust and I improved my last podium finish of third."
Kim said the event had many tough aspects to the race.
"The swim was really good, it was rough with a deep water start and having the guys and girls in front of you but the water was lovely," she said.
"The bike was tough with very strong headwind. It was just a mental game and saying it is only 22km.
"Once I was off the bike, the run was so worthwhile with spectators cheering you on the whole way. It doesn't matter who you are or who you race for everyone supports you - that is my highlight."
Kim even managed to place ahead of her husband which she said will make great bragging rights.
Placing second in the women's was Townsville competitor Trudy Fegan and third was Townsville competitor Charlotte Hiette.
