Mareeba Combined Agents penned 97 head at this week's prime and store cattle sale. Numbers reduced on the previous week. Buyers were presented with 51 bullocks and steers, two heifers, 41 cows and three bulls. One major export processor was present but didn't operate. Two local wholesale processors bought the majority of the prime cattle. The remainder of the cattle were picked up by local fatteners and traders.
Bullocks suitable for the local trade gained 7c. Local trade cows slipped a little in value, back 18c without the competition from the export processor. Heavy bulls suitable for slaughter sold to 20c cheaper. Good quality stores were limited to one pen from the Mt. Garnet area.
Local trade steers sold from 220c to 247c, local trade heifers reached 197c and local trade cows made from 150c to 177c. Bulls suitable for slaughter ranged sold to 201c. Store steers topped at 235c, store heifers sold to 120c, and younger store bulls reached 161c.
