A TRUCK driver died after a head-on collision on the Barkly Highway near Cloncurry.
The road train, which was carrying cement powder, was travelling west on the highway when it and an east-bound ute collided about 30km west of Cloncurry at 4.30pm on Tuesday.
The truck's 32-year-old male driver died at the scene. A 48-year-old man who was driving the ute was flown to Mount Isa Hospital with minor injuries.
The crash closed the Barkly Highway overnight, while firefighters and SES volunteers helped to clear the scene.
Mount Isa Police Sergeant Ian Wanchap said a heavy lift crane was required on the scene to recover the trailers and an inspector from Transport and Main Roads had also attended.
Police investigations into the cause of the crash are continuing.
