A road train carrying diesel and LPG into western Queensland burst into flames about 30 kilometres outside of Barcaldine on Monday morning.
Police said it was likely a blown tyre had caused the explosion, which occurred around 5.30am near Tara Station, west of Barcaldine.
The truck’s driver escaped from the blast without injury.
The Landsborough Highway between Barcaldine and Longreach was closed while crews dealt with the wreckage, with one lane now open to traffic.
“One lane is open is at the moment and the council is doing traffic direction,” said Inspector Julia Cook from Longreach Police Station.
A crane would be called in to move the wreckage of the truck, with council crews then assessing damage to the road.
