Monto cattle and Country’s first cattle sale for 2019 saw 1250 head yarded with very dry conditions the influx of numbers over much of the state saw prices drop 20c/kg to pre-Christmas rates with the plainer types being hard to place and sold to reduced rates while better lines and quality were solid.
Heavy bulls sold from 190c to 225c. TJ and SL Clarke sold Brangus cross bullocks 656kg for 255c or $1675. WW and SM McLachlan sold Brahman bullocks 645kg for $1595. Bev Marbach sold 470kg Charbray No 7 heifers for $1120 or 238c. Les and Anne Marshall, Greenfields, sold cows for 215c or $1192. RP and MR Hampson sold Santa cows to 211c or $1092. RJ and KJ Preston penned Brahman cows to realise $1110 or 213c.
Australian Runze Agri sold Droughtmaster cross No 7 steers 452kg for 240c or $1086. LD and SJ McLaughlan’s heavy Brahman feeder steers sold to 250c or $1110. The Younger family, Langley Flats penned quality Brahman steers 437kg to make 253c or $1110. Ian McLaughlan’s Droughtmaster steers 330kg sold to 268c or $885. DS and MR Hebbard sold 327kg Santa cross steers 273c or $895. P and N Jamieson sold Charolais Droughmaster cross No 8 steers 340kg to 238c or $962. Shayne and Helen Mossman’s run of 60 Brahman cross steers averaged 260c topping at $755.
Crabby Mountain Partnership sold aged Brahman Charbray cross cows and calves for $800/unit. SM Schimke sold Droughtmaster cross No 7 heifers 425kg for 225c or $957. Bev Marbach sold a run of Brangus and Charbray No 7 heifers to realise 239c or $977 top. J, F and C Younger’s Brahman heifers 348kg sold to 212c or $740. JT Cahalane’s 416kg Charbray heifers sold to 230c or $959. P and N Jamieson sold Droughtmaster cross No 8 heifers 306kg for 241c or $740. R and D Edgar’s crossbred weaner heifers 290kg sold to 222c or $644. Most lighter types sold from 180c to 210c with plainer types of heifers 150c-180c.
