The Queensland Resources Council and the CFMEU have joined forces to oppose a Greens' federal bill to ban coal mining in the Galilee Basin - where Adani's controversial giant coal project is ready to go.
If ever made law, Senator Larissa Waters' bill would permanently ban the mining of all coal in the Galilee Basin and stop the Adani Carmichael mine from starting operations.
The bill would cost jobs, QRC chief Ian Macfarlane says in a statement.
Adani struggled to secure finance for the controversial project but in November announced it would self-fund a scaled-back version.
However, the project remains hamstrung with two key environmental plans yet to be approved.
The first is Adani's management plan for the endangered Black-Throated Finch, which is being reviewed by an independent scientific panel.
The region in which the Carmichael mine sits has the most significant Black-Throated Finch population in Australia.
The second hurdle is the Groundwater Dependent Ecosystem Management Plan that requires approval, at both federal and state level.
Adani Mining chief executive Lucas Dow has accused the Palaszczuk government of "playing politics" with delays.
"We remain concerned as to the state government support for this project. We want them to stop playing politics, " Mr Dow said.
The Adani coal mine has been a thorn in the side of Queensland's Labor government, which has tried to walk the line between supporting job creation in central Queensland and concern for the environment.
