Cattle numbers almost halved in the lead-up to Christmas, totalling 479 listed, down 361 head. Clearance rates however continued to improve, sitting at 91 per cent prior to post-sale negotiations.
From Talwood, MF & FM Murphy offered a single line of weaned heifers which returned 267c or $705. These Droughtmaster cross heifers are 13-16 months old and weigh 264kg.
Feeder heifers weighing up to 300kg averaged 245c, selling to a top of 265c. Kooringal Pastoral Co, Springsure, offered a line of 58 Droughtmaster cross heifers which returned the top price. These heifers are 288kg and 12-16 months. The same vendor also offered another two lines of feeder heifers. 66 Brahman cross heifers weighing 284kg, aged 14-17 months and sold for 227c, while a line of 142 Droughtmaster cross heifers, weighing 280kg, 14-17 months old and returned 242c.
Jedburgh Pastoral Company, Muckadilla offered a line of 22 PTIC Droughtmaster/Hereford cross cows which sold for $750. Weighing 430kg, these cows are 4-13 years old. They have been joined to Angus, Hereford and Droughtmaster bulls. This line will also travel 570km to Inverell, NSW.
Sheep numbers fell this week by 3474 head to total 4990 head. Clearance remained steady with 52pc achieved.
MF & FM Murphy also offered 518 SIL Merino ewes which sold for $186. These ewes are two years old, 51kg, Wilgunya blood, have a 1” skin and will travel to Walgett, NSW.
From Longreach, Pumbaaloo Pty Ltd offered 660 SIL Australian White/White Dorper cross ewes which sold for $127. These ewes are mixed age, weigh 52kg, have a 1½” skin and will travel to Charleville. The same vendor also offered a second line of 960 Australian White/Dorper cross store wether lambs which sold for $88. These lambs are 3.5 to 5.5 year old, 28kg and will travel 1493kms to Griffith, NSW.
