Mareeba Combined Agents penned a total of 531 head for the final prime and store sale of 2018.
The sale was attended by two major export meat processors, three local wholesale processors and a larger number of local traders and fatteners. The total of the yarding averaged 221c/kg and averaged the vendors $747.61/hd.
Bullocks suitable for the local butchers trade and the export slaughter market reduced in value with the absence of the live export competition back 29-30c. Local trade heifers and cows improved in value up 19 – 25c. Cows suitable for the export slaughter market lost a little value back 5c.
Bulls suitable for the slaughter market showed a gain of 54c on the best of last week at 200c. A few better quality bulls were traded at around 242-249c. The best of the young store males hit 270c. The best of the good quality store steers broke the 300c mark finishing at 313c. The best of the store heifers didn’t hit the top of 277c of last week back 33c.
Local trade steers sold from 262c to 280c, local trade heifers ranged from 225c to 268c and local trade cows made from 203c to 245c. Ox suitable for slaughter sold from 130c to 179.2c, cows suitable for slaughter made from 200c to 236c, while bulls suitable for slaughter ranged from 166.2c to 254c.
Store steers topped at 313c, store heifers sold to 244c, younger store bulls reached 269.2c, and cows and calves sold to $700/unit.
