A MAN who was unaware he had won more than a million dollars in the lotto was walking around Mackay for a week ignoring phone calls from Golden Casket thinking it was someone trying to sell him insurance.
The mystery winner was finally tracked down today when he heard news of a missing millionaire in Mackay and decided to check his online account.
The man was one of four division one winning entries nationally in the Gold Lotto, drawn on Saturday, December 1.
Each entry took home a division one prize of $1,004,705.27.
Golden Casket officials said they had been unable to contact the man despite the winning entry being registered to an online account.
“I thought it was insurance mobs bothering me, so I wasn’t answering the phone,” he said.
“I put in for one of those comparison quotes and they haven’t stopped calling me.
“I saw something on Facebook about a Mackay person who wouldn’t answer their phone, so I had a look at the app and realised I better call Golden Casket back.
“I didn’t think it was real.
“I thought, oh my god. I think I’ve won $1 million dollars.
“It was absolutely unreal.”
The man said he was contemplating an early retirement and needed some time to decide exactly how he’ll spend his $1 million windfall.
“I will probably pay off the house,” he said.
“I wouldn’t mind learning to sail and buying a boat.
“I could imagine sailing off into the sunset.
“This has definitely changed my life, no more financial stress for me.”
