The future of agriculture in north-west Queensland was the focus of a forum held in Hughenden this week.

LANDHOLDERS from across the North gathered in Hughenden this week to hear experts’ views on the future of agriculture in the region.

And for the 60 or so people who attended the AgForce event went away with a sense of optimism after hearing details of several exciting plans for the district.

An update was provided on Hughenden’s irrigated agriculture project which recently secured $180 million in Federal Government funding.

Hughenden Irrigation Corporation chairman Shane McCarthy outlined where the dam would be built and how the water would be used to develop irrigated land at 15 mile.

MLA’s Peter Dundon spoke about the future of live export and how producers can play a key role in ensuring its success.

The Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility and CRC for Developing Northern Australia also outlined details of their current and upcoming projects and research.

Thursday’s event was capped off with celebratory drinks and a barbecue dinner at Diggers Entertainment Centre.
