A DEUTZ 420 tractor and a Silvan Oktopus 1000 litre trailed vineyard sprayer were chosen by Australia’s 2019 Winery of the Year as the best combination for spraying.
Situated on ten hectares in the Yarra Valley, Seville Estate was named Winery of the Year at the 2019 Halliday Wine Companion Awards, held in Melbourne.
Seville Estate, vineyard manager, Andrew Peggie said a recent upgrade to a new 1000 litre Silvan trailed sprayer fitted with a five-a-side Oktopus spray head was a significant advance.
“For over twenty years I have been using an original Silvan 400 litre PTO vineyard sprayer which gave very reliable and faithful service as our principal spray unit, but it became less and less suitable for our needs,” he said.
“I chose the new Silvan 1000 litre Oktopus unit for a number of reasons, first it is very quiet in operation and gives us excellent canopy penetration as our principal applications are for mildews.
“As we have a number row ends with tight turning circles and variable gradient slopes in the vineyard, I also chose to fit a wide axle option to the single axle.
“Our first two spray applications since commissioning the new sprayer demonstrated that this was a great choice as the new sprayer has really demonstrated its flexibility
“I also believe that with the improved spray addition and mixing features it will be a much safer option to use.”
