The Dalby Regional Saleyards has proven to be one of the biggest players in Australia’s cattle industry says Western Downs Regional Council facilities spokesman councillor Ray Brown.
Cr Brown said with “record breaking sales, state-of-the-art features and internationally recognised qualifications”, the facility is continuing to enhance opportunities for agents, vendors and buyers across the nation.
“With a history of more than 75 years, the modern Dalby selling centre is making a big difference to how Australian cattle are sold.
“With four acres under its roof housing 680 pens, automated drafting, a bull selling ring, washdown facilities, public Wi-Fi, ramps and pedestrian walkways the site is the prime spot for handling the nation's beef market.”
Cr Brown said delivering on this national reputation is a priority for the management of the facility, though understanding the industry's risks is just as important.
“The staff pride themselves on upholding animal welfare and ensuring that buyers and sellers receive the safest service and best support with all sale processes.
“The centre takes strength in its strategic location at the crossroads of three major highways, giving it easy access to rail transport and proximity to meatworks, feed-on properties and feedlots.”
Cr Brown said as well as “significantly boosting” the cattle market in the Western Downs region, the facility has also increased national export opportunities as it’s completely accredited under the European Union Cattle Accreditation Scheme.
“Since the accreditation, cattle sales have increased with close to 5,000 head sold every week.”
He said despite its busy operations and national reputation, the Dalby Regional Saleyards support and promote the local community by hosting the annual Santa Gertrudis Bull Sale.
“The facility is also a feature event of the annual Big Skies festival and gives locals and visitors the opportunity to experience sale day with an exclusive tour.”
