Emerald agents yarded similar numbers to last week with just over 2100 on offer on Thursday. The sale held firm to slightly stronger on the back of last week’s sale, with heavy bullocks over 550kg reaching 306c/kg and averaging 297c, and steers 500-550kg topping at 301c to average 298c. Steers 400-500kg topped at 306c to average 296c, while steers 350-400kg made to 307c to average 289c. Steers 280-350kg topped at 290c to average 272c, while steers in the weaner weight ranges made to 299c to average 266c.
Over 400kg heifers reached 295c to average 273c, while heifers 350-400kg topped at 273c to average 263c. Heifers 280-350kg reached 275c to average 264c, while heifers in the weaner weight ranges made to 269c to average 246c. Heavy cows over 520kg topped at 248c to average 240c, while cows 450-520kg reached 245c to average 231c. A small lot of mixed cows and calves were sold, with the best to $1160/unit.
Sale Highlights: Charles and Wendy Curran, Bluegrass Plains, Capella sold Charolais steers to 306c to weigh 430kg or $1318. The Russell family, Consuelo, Rolleston sold Santa steers to 307c and weighed 388kg or $1191. The Barlow family, Amaroo, Comet, consigned a line of Brangus steers to 286c and weighed 255kg or $729.
AJ and Pam Davison, Lumeah, Middlemount, sold Brahman heifers to 269c and weighed 360kg to return $969. The Daniels family, StonyBrook, Fernlees sold Santa cows to 239c to weigh 582kg or $1392. Robbie and Veronica Ryan, Bridgeflats, Emerald sold Brahman cross cows to 238c to weigh 555kg and $1322.
