HUGHENDEN’S historic Grand Hotel has been reduced to rubble after an intense fire broke out in the former pub on Friday night.
The blaze started in the abandoned pub about 9.30pm and quickly took hold, completely destroying the building.
Firefighters arrived at the Gray Street building to find that it was well alight.
A house next door to the hotel was also damaged in the fire, as was a building across the road.
No-one was injured.
The Grand Hotel was built in 1910 and heritage listed in 2007. It stopped trading in 2004 and had been boarded up to prevent people from entering the building.
The Flinders Shire Council took over ownership of the historic building earlier this year.
Police guarded the scene over night on Friday before specialist officers attended to investigate the cause of the fire.
