As senior schooling in Queensland prepares to undergo its biggest change in 50 years, Whitsunday Anglican School in Mackay is leading the change to the new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).
Ahead of the transition away from the Overall Position (OP) and to the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) in 2020, Whitsunday Anglican School’s Year 10 cohorts will be beginning their Year 11 studies in term four.
The students will be undertaking an additional class that will prepare them for the new internal and external assessment requirements, a school spokesman said.
“This will provide our students and teachers the time required to comprehensively complete all aspects of each newly revised subject area,” he said.
Year 10 student and Booth House boarder Patrick Mohr is part of the first Year 10 cohort which is getting a head start on their Year 11 studies.
“It has been great to get a taste of what Year 11 will be like next year and know that we will be ahead of the pack when it comes to our senior studies,” he said.
“I feel supported by my teachers and the school and am confident that I will have the best chance for success.”
Year 9 student and Booth House boarder Annaka Fredrickson is starting to think about her senior studies.
She has no doubt she will be thankful for the head start.
“I feel good knowing I will be getting a head start on my Year 11 studies while I am in Year 10,” she said. “There will be no surprises when I start my senior schooling and the whole experience will be less daunting.”
The co-educational day and boarding school has students from Kindergarten to Senior School. Booth House provides for up to 78 boarders from Years 5 to 12.
Prospective students are invited to experience a day in the life of a Whitsunday Anglican School student and a Booth House boarder.
