MORE than 2000 keen punters were track-side at the weekend for the annual Charters Towers Amatuers race day.
Hailed as the biggest country race day in north-west Queensland, Saturday’s event at the Charters Towers Racecourse did not disappoint.
More than 600 patrons added a bit of luxury to their day at the Minjar Gold Trackside Marquee.
And fashionistas of all ages were out in force, with the Charters Towers Toyota Fashions on the Field attracting record numbers this year, vying for some amazing prizes including $3000 worth of Flight Centre Willows Gift Vouchers.
Competition on the track was just as fierce, with Scott Sheargold riding Martial Art to victory for trainer Ben Williams in the Charters Towers Amateur Cup.
Charters Towers based trainer Ben Williams had a great day showing his prowess, with seven of his horses securing a win or a place across the five races.
The entertainment continued late into the night, with race goers staying late on until midnight to enjoy the performance of local singer Kelli Shun at the Stockyard Bar.
