Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 913 cattle on Wednesday, consisting of 737 prime cattle and 176 store cattle. Prime cattle yarded: 170 bullocks, 30 heifers, 309 cows and 228 bulls. Store cattle yarded: 126 steers, 49 heifers and 1 x 1 cow and calf. Cattle comprised of isolated quality local pens of bullocks and cows with a large proportion of the yarding being plainer condition cows and bulls from the north. The yarding was drawn from Doomadgee, Mt Isa, Normanton, Croydon, Einasleigh, Richmond and local and coastal areas.

Bullocks were quoted 5-7c dearer, heifers were 12-15c dearer, cows were 6-8c dearer and bulls were no change on last week’s rates.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 295c and averaged 260c, and those over 500kg topped at 310c to average 281c. Heifers under 440kg sold to 271c and averaged 245c, while heifers over 440kg topped at 236c, averaging 236c. Cows under 400kg made 224c and averaged 177c, while cows over 400kg reached 251c, averaging 227c. Bulls under 450kg made 267c and averaged 230c, while bulls over 450kg reached 270c to average 230c.
Bullocks topped at 294c/kg sold on a/c Turley Cattle Co, that weighed 644kg to return $1895/head. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c LCB Cattle, that sold for 260c to weigh 436kg and return $1134/head. The top pen of cows were sold by LCB Cattle, for 242c to weigh 576kg and return $1393/head. Bulls sold on a/c Claraville Station, topped at 270c and weighed 720kg to return $1944/head.

Quality store cattle were insufficient to quote with small isolated pens with majority steers and mickeys from the north.
Steers 200 – 320kg sold to 280c, averaging 255c, steers 320 – 400kg topped at 282c and averaged 274c and steers over 400kg sold to 278c to average 278c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 180c and averaged 141c, heifers 200 – 320kg sold to 236c, averaging 221c, while heifers 320 – 370kg made 214c to average 204c.
A pen of 18 steers a/c S & J Marsterson, made 282c weighed 374kg returning an average of $1054/head. A good pen of four heifers on a/c Pajingo Past Co made 230c, weighed 308kg returning $707/head. There were insufficient cows and calves to quote on.
