Thursday’s Emerald sale saw much the same number of cattle yarded as last week’s sale, with just over 1100 head. A stronger slaughter market saw bullocks to 308c/kg and cows to 264c. The store market reflected the quality on offer with most categories having little movement from previous weeks.
Heavy bullocks over 550kg made to 308c to average 289c, while steers 500-550kg made to 312c to average 306c. Steers 400-500kg topped at 296c to average 270c, steers 350-400kg made to 275c to average 265c, with steers 280-350kg topping at 287c to average 262c. Steers in the weaner weight ranges made to 290c to average 269c.
Heifers over 400kg were too few to quote, 350-400kg heifers topped at 243c to average 240c, while heifers 280-350kg reached 269c to average 242c. Heifers in the weaner weight ranges made to 260c to average 237c. Cows over 520kg topped at 264c to average 257c, while 450-520kg cows reached 250c to average 230c. No cows and calves were penned this week.

Stew and Di Jeppesen, Olivevale, Comet consigned Charolias cross cows to 264c to weigh 617kg or $1630. Shane Goodwin, Malthoid, Capella sold Droughtmaster cross heifers to 246c and weighed 310kg or $763.
