Cattle numbers remained steady, totalling 1024 head. This week also saw a 100 per cent clearance, with over 800 head moving across from NSW into Queensland. Highlights saw Angus backgrounder steers travel over 900km from Tumut, NSW to Texas, while Angus cows and calves made a similar length journey from Goulburn to Warwick.
Weaned steers weighing up to 300kg averaged 278c, selling to a top of 332c. From Barcaldine, Kate McKeering offered 120 Shorthorn Cross/Droughtmaster cross steers which returned the top price. These steers are 5-10 months and weigh 200kg. South Comongin Pastoral Co, Quilpie offered 63 Ultra Black cross steers which sold for 278c. Weighing 203kg, these steers are 7-12 months and bred from Milwillah and Nindooinbah bulls.
J & J Cau, Glenmorgan, offered three lines of weaned steers, 12-16 months in age. A line of 34 Charolais/Hereford steers, weighing 258kg returned 269c. 34 Angus steers weighing 267kg sold for 279c, while 34 Poll Hereford/Hereford cross steers weighing 245kg returned 264c. Loongana Pastoral Co, Longreach, offered 74 Santa Gertrudis/Droughtmaster cross steers 7-10 months and 290kg which sold for 250c. The vendor also offered 79 Santa/Droughtmaster cross heifers, weighing 257kg which returned 253c.
Weaned heifers weighing up to 300kg averaged 269c, selling to a top of 301c. Brazil Enterprises, Goondiwindi, offered 120 Angus heifers 12-14 months and 219kg which returned the top price. The same vendor also offered a further two lines of heifers which are 12-14 months. A line of 72 Angus heifers weighing 278kg returned 279c, while 108 Angus heifers weighing 277kg sold for 275c.
Pialaway Grazing Co, Yuleba, offered 36 Hereford cross weaned heifers 11-15 months and 256kg which returned 263c. The vendor also offered 72 Santa Gertrudis/composite steers 11-15 months and 241kg which sold for 278c. Heart2J Cattle Co, Emerald, offered 119 Brahman cross backgrounder steers 18-21 months and 346kg which achieved 269c.
MRH Enterprises, Yuleba, offered 40 Droughtmaster cross cows and calves which returned $1100. These cows have been joined to Droughtmaster bulls, are 4-6 years and weigh 412kg. The calves at foot are sired by Droughtmaster bulls and are 1-8 weeks. The vendor also offered 19 Droughtmaster cows which sold for $950. Weighing 430kg, these cows are 4-6 years and PTIC to Droughtmaster bulls. Both lines will travel 400km to Bellata, NSW.
Jordan Trading Co, Ilfracombe, offered the only line of sheep available from Queensland this week. The 760 Poll Merino wether lambs sold for $86. Weighing 31kg, these lambs are Apr/May ’18 drop and are travelling over 1300km to Dubbo, NSW. A line of 550 mixed sex White Suffolk/Merino lambs from Nyngan, NSW will travel to Warwick, Qld.
