The 19th annual Gold City Brahman Sale will provide plenty of opportunities for northern beef producers to strengthen their herds when the bidding begins at 9am on Friday, November 2, at the Dalrymple Saleyards, in Charters Towers.
A first-rate 140 lot draft will be on offer at the sale this year, comprising of 100 registered bulls and 40 herd bulls, which sale chairman Peter Chiesa said, equates to an increase of 40 per cent on previous years.
“Our primary goal this year was to provide more bulls for you, the buyer, to select from,” Mr Chiesa said.
“There will be 65 red and 75 grey bulls for your competition, with more than 50 lots being polled or scurred,” he said.
“We haven’t just added numbers, we’ve also bolstered the overall quality of the catalogue.”
He said a total of 19 studs from across the Sunshine State will be represented at this year’s sale.
“Breeders have selected drafts with superior genetics, proven performance and the requirements of northern commercial producers in mind.
‘With vendors being able to bring lines of bulls, you can appreciate what each breeder can provide for your herd.”
Mr Chiesa said the Australian Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA) sponsored sale kicks off the Spring selling season in the North, “and with early storms predicted, it should be an easy choice for producers in the region to attend”.
“The sale is renowned for having good quality bulls at affordable prices.”
Peter and Sue Hammer, Annavale Brahmans, Charters Towers, attained the top price honours last year, when commercial producer Rob Waugh, Yungaburra, made the winning $15,000 bid on Annavale N 809.
Mr Chiesa said all 2018 sale bulls will have Bull Breeding Soundness Examination (BBSE) certificates from accredited Australian cattle veterinarians.
“Further quality assurance measures have been taken by vendors to guarantee their stock in the form of Pestivirus and Morphology testing, eligibility for entry into NT and WA and raw data scans in the form of EMA, IMF and fat scanning.”
The sale lots will be available for inspection on the afternoon of Thursday, November 1, with the ‘Beers with the Bulls’ meet and greet function taking place in the early evening.
