The NK Brahman stud held their 13th annual sale in Springsure last Wednesday.
It was an emotional day for the Skinner and Hills family, as the public paid tribute with a minutes silence in respect to the late Pat Hills who died just three weeks prior.
The Late Pat Hills was described as a true character who was hardworking and had a huge passion for big horses, cattle and dogs.
As the auctioneers went to work and the bulls were drafted through the ring, the temperament and preparation of the cattle shown on the day was a true credit to co principal Fiona Skinner,considering the emotional strain placed on the family during such a busy time of the year.
Overall the sale saw 40 of 52 bulls offered for a clearance of 77 per cent with to average $4112.
Top priced bull for the day was NK 1420 (S) (ET) a grey scurred bull who sold for $17,000 to Kelvin and Margaret Maloney, Kenilworth,Mount Coolon.
NK 1420, son of Brahrock Mr Leader 1303 (AI) (ET) (P) and out of My Lady Lou 4687 (H) caught the eye of many cattlemen and bids were hard and fast for the grey scurred bull, who weighed of 878 kilograms with an EMA of 143cm sq and a scrotal circumference of 39cm.
The second top price was reached on the day by the lot 24 bull NK 1408, again another grey bull selling for $7,000 to Bill and Sue Pickersgill, Geneva,Theodore, for quality buying of $7,000.
NK 1408 was a scurred bull weighing 784 kgs, with an EMA of 136cm sq, and a scrotal circumference of 35cm.
The volume buyers of the sale was Baldy Bay, Bedford Downs, Western Australia, who went home with nine red bulls for a $3000 average.
Baldy Bay are repeat buyers for the NK stud, showing up year after year for the quality lineup.
Also buying in bulk for the day was the Hartley family, Kinka, Injune, who purchased 8 bulls to for an average of $3437.
Repeat buyers Ingelara Grazing, Rolleston, also attended the sale and selected three grey bulls from the draft to gross $13,000 for an average of $4333.
Auctioneer Randall Spann, Elders said it was a tough day in tough conditions but it was certainly a good line up of bulls offered on the day.
Vendor, Fiona Skinner said after the sale that it was a really emotional day for the family but she was extremely proud of the tidy lineup presented.
She said they were also looking forward to offering a quality draft at the Rockhampton Brahman week sale to be held at the CQLX, Gracemere next week.
